Risk Analyst – Customer Success (Technical & Client-Facing)
About The Position
Matrix IFS is seeking a Risk Analyst to join our Customer Success organization. This is a technical, client-facing role supporting major financial institutions, merchants, and enterprise clients in leveraging our machine‑learning–driven platform to detect and prevent fraud and financial crime.
The Risk Analyst serves as a strategic interpreter, bridging the gap between technical and business teams. This role translates complex Data Science outputs into practical business actions, while also converting ambiguous client fraud issues into clear technical requirements for internal engineering, product, and data teams.
Core Responsibilities
- Act as the subject-matter expert for Fraud & Digital Trust domains—both internally and externally.
- Translate model outputs, analytics, and detection signals into actionable business logic.
- Analyze client fraud patterns and convert them into structured technical requirements.
- Support customers in optimizing fraud strategies, detection rules, thresholds, and operational workflows.
- Drive benchmarking, operational strategy, and best practices across Fraud and Digital Trust.
- Provide insights into data requirements, compliance considerations, and industry trends.
- Collaborate with product and research teams and contribute to prioritization of use cases.
- Manage RSA–product hub engagement and support marketing with intelligence-based insights.
- Communicate complex ideas clearly to non‑technical stakeholders, including topics such as false positives, risk tolerance, and model behavior.
Core Competencies
Fraud Domain Expertise
- Deep understanding of modern fraud typologies such as:
- Authorized Push Payment (APP)
- Account Takeover (ATO)
- Mule activity
- Ability to connect model outputs to real-world financial crime scenarios.
Analytical Rigor
- Skilled in identifying anomalies using SQL and data analysis tools.
- Ability to investigate large datasets to isolate high‑risk signals (“needle in a haystack”).
Operational Agility
- Comfort switching between high-level strategic fraud analysis and granular rule-tuning.
- Ability to proactively identify model blind spots and propose mitigation steps.
Client Management
- Experience managing complex stakeholder relationships across enterprise environments.
- Ability to influence, challenge, or push back professionally when needed.
Clear Communication
- Able to explain technical or statistical concepts in plain language.
- Skilled in translating “technical risk” into measurable “business loss” impact.
Skills & Qualifications
Technical Skills
- Strong SQL skills for investigative analysis and pattern detection.
- Experience interpreting ML model outputs and rule‑based detection systems.
- Ability to write, refine, and operationalize fraud detection rules.
- Understanding of data requirements, feature importance, model blind spots, and monitoring.
- Ability to convert client fraud problems into structured technical use cases.
Fraud & Risk Skills
- Knowledge of fraud schemes across banking, payments, and digital channels.
- Understanding of detection methodologies (rules, models, hybrid scoring).
- Familiarity with operational KPIs: false positives, detection rates, hit rates, loss prevention, etc.
Consultative & Client-Facing Skills
- Strong presentation and communication abilities.
- Experience working with enterprise clients, ideally in financial services.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and drive alignment across teams.
Mindset & Approach
- Prioritizes understanding the why behind fraud patterns before suggesting solutions.
- Proactively looks for signs the model may have missed—not relying solely on accuracy metrics.
- Approaches fraud as a business‑loss problem, not just a technical‑risk signal.
- Strategic thinker who can foresee operational impacts of detection changes.
