About the Role
Matrix Global Services is expanding its offshore data engineering practice and is seeking a Senior Data Engineer with strong, hands-on technical expertise. This is a highly engineering-focused role for a self-driven professional who thrives in a fast-paced consulting environment, takes full ownership of deliverables, and communicates effectively with both technical teams and business stakeholders.
In this role, you will design, build, and operate scalable data platforms and pipelines for enterprise clients across multiple industries, leveraging modern cloud and lakehouse architectures including Databricks, Azure, and AWS.

Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain robust ETL/ELT pipelines using Databricks and Apache Airflow
- Develop and support data models across Bronze, Silver, and Gold medallion layers
- Write efficient, maintainable SQL and Python code for data transformation and analytics
- Build and manage scalable data workloads on Azure and/or AWS cloud environments
- Collaborate closely with data architects, analysts, and client stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions
- Monitor pipeline health, troubleshoot issues, and drive continuous improvements in performance and data quality
- Produce clear documentation, including technical designs, data lineage, and operational runbooks
- Operate with a high degree of autonomy — proactively identifying risks, blockers, and solutions without dependency
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of hands-on data engineering experience in a professional or consulting environment
- Strong proficiency in SQL and Python for pipeline development and data transformation
- Practical experience with Databricks, including Delta Lake, Spark, Unity Catalog, notebooks, and Jobs
- Proven experience orchestrating workflows using Apache Airflow (DAG design, scheduling, monitoring, error handling)
- Cloud experience with Azure (ADF, ADLS, Synapse) and/or AWS (Glue, S3, Redshift)
- Strong data modeling capabilities (dimensional, relational, lakehouse patterns)
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a remote, offshore setup
- Clear written and verbal communication skills; comfortable participating in client-facing discussions
- Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities, especially in ambiguous or evolving environments
Nice to Have (Bonus Skills)
- Experience with systems architecture and data connectivity, including APIs, event streaming, and integration patterns
- Power BI experience (semantic models, DAX, reporting, Direct Lake)
- Front-end or data product UI experience using JavaScript, React, or similar frameworks
